A med spa owner told us last month that she had finally cleaned up her clinic. One login for records, scheduling, payments, consent forms, all of it. She had replaced five tools with one and she was proud of it, and she should have been.
Then she said the quiet part. "So why are my afternoons still empty?"
That is the whole article, right there. She had bought a very good tool for one job and expected it to do a different one.
BoomerangFX is that tool for a lot of clinics. This post is not here to tell you to drop it. It is here to hand you the one number that tells you whether it is doing the job you think it is.
What is BoomerangFX, exactly?
BoomerangFX is an all-in-one practice platform built for aesthetic and med spa clinics. Patient records and EMR, consent forms, HIPAA-compliant charts, e-prescribing, scheduling, SMS reminders, payments and point of sale, reporting, and marketing automation, all in one system.
The scale is real, and it is worth saying plainly. The company was founded in 2005 by a plastic surgeon, Dr. Stephen Mulholland, alongside Jerome Dwight, and it now serves more than 10,000 clinics across the US, Canada, Australia, and the UK. This is not a weekend project. It is a serious piece of software with real clinics running on it every day.
That is what you are buying. Keep it in mind, because what follows is not a hit piece.
What does BoomerangFX do well?
Two things, and they deserve credit before anything else.
It was built for aesthetics on purpose. A lot of clinic software is a hair-salon tool with a medical coat painted on. BoomerangFX started in the aesthetic world, so the parts that matter to a med spa are there by design: consent forms, before photos stored against a chart, HIPAA-compliant records, e-prescribing. The fit is genuine.
It puts the whole clinic in one place. One owner in the reviews said the single system let her replace five separate vendors and save real money every month. That is the honest pull of an all-in-one: fewer logins, fewer bills, one dashboard, reporting that actually ties together. For a busy clinic drowning in tabs, that is worth money.
That is the real case for BoomerangFX, and it is a strong one. Now here are the things you cannot check before you sign, and they decide whether it pays off.
How much does BoomerangFX cost?
The price is not public. Anywhere.
We looked on their site and across the software-review pages. There is no price list, no "starting at," no published tiers. You get a number by booking a demo. Plenty of clinic software sells this way, and it is not a scandal on its own, but it has one concrete effect on you: you cannot compare before you pick up the phone, and you cannot know whether the clinic across town pays what you pay.
We are not going to guess a figure, because a made-up price about a real company is a credibility problem and a legal one. What we will tell you is the pattern worth watching. The quote usually bundles records, scheduling, payments, and marketing into one monthly fee, and some users report extra charges that appear after they sign. So get the all-in monthly number in writing, and ask plainly what is billed on top of it.
Does the marketing module actually get you new patients?
This is the question that costs clinics the most, and it hides inside the word "marketing."
BoomerangFX has marketing automation and a CRM. Here is the honest distinction, and it is the whole ballgame: those tools work the people already in your database. Reminders, rebooking, review requests, follow-up on a form someone already filled in. That is managing demand you already have.
Creating demand is a different machine. A woman who has been thinking about Botox for six months but has never heard of your clinic is not in your CRM. Nothing in your database reaches her. Something has to go out and put your offer in front of her, on Meta or Google, before she is ever a contact. That is a separate job from emailing your existing list a rebooking reminder.
The two get blurred because both are called "marketing." They are not the same thing, and confusing them is how a clinic ends up with a spotless dashboard and empty afternoons.
There is a med-spa-specific trap hiding here too. Any automation tool that queues up your ads still has to keep your ad account alive, and med spa ads get flagged and banned faster than almost any other kind. A before-and-after photo or the wrong phrase can take your whole Meta ad account to zero overnight, and no all-in-one platform hands that risk back to you when it happens. Compliance is a discipline, not a feature toggle.
None of this makes BoomerangFX's marketing side useless. It means you judge it the way you judge any marketing dollar. Not by its feature list. By cost per booked consult. If that is the part of your clinic that feels broken, that is the thing worth auditing first, before you pay for another tier.
This is the same reason clinics keep circling the done-for-you agencies BoomerangFX competes with. We wrote about what a done-for-you med spa marketing setup should actually deliver, and the test is identical: does it create new demand you can measure, or just organize the demand you already had?
Who keeps your data if you leave?
The lock-in is not a clause. It is gravity.
Your patient records, your photos, your scheduling history, your marketing data, all of it lives inside one platform. The longer you run the whole clinic through it, the more your business is shaped around it, and the more it costs to move. That is true of every all-in-one, and it is the quiet reason these bills tend to climb: leaving is expensive, and they know it.
We cannot tell you BoomerangFX's specific export terms, because those come in a contract we have not read, and yours may differ. So do not take our word or a review site's. Ask, in writing, before you sign. This is the same checklist we hand every clinic owner about the accounts and logins that should be in your name, not your vendor's, because the platform is only one of the six places your business can quietly stop being yours.
Questions to email BoomerangFX before you sign
- What is the all-in monthly price, and what is billed on top of it?
- Can I export my full patient and appointment data, in a usable format, whenever I want, at no extra charge?
- If I run ads through your marketing tools, do I keep the pixel, the ad account, and the attribution data if I cancel?
- What happens to my patient photos and reviews if I leave?
A clear written answer beats any online review, including this one. If the answer stays verbal, that is already an answer.
The only number that settles it: your cost per booked consult
Not your software fee. Not the number of features on the tier. The cost to turn a stranger into a booked consult.
The math fits on the back of an invoice. Everything you spend in a month to reach new people, divided by the number of new consults booked from it that month.
An example with round numbers, to swap for your own. You spend $2,000 in a month to reach new people. It books you 20 new consults. Your cost per booked consult is $100.
Whether $100 is good depends on one thing: what a new patient is worth to you. If your average new client spends $1,200 over the first year, $100 to book the consult is excellent. Now change one variable. Same $2,000, but your follow-up is slow and only 8 of those consults actually book. Your cost per booked consult jumps to $250. Same spend, same software, two and a half times more expensive.
See where the game is won? Not in the platform you picked. In how many strangers you reach, and how many of those consults turn into booked chairs.
Here is a real order of magnitude, from our own numbers, in your exact niche. For a med spa we work with in Nice, EUR 620 of ad budget produced 193 leads. That is EUR 3.21 per lead. It ended with 88 clients, and the first lead came in 1h27 after launch. The tool at the front desk did not produce that. An acquisition system built to create demand and measured by booked work did.
Should you cancel BoomerangFX?
No, not on a hunch, and not because of this article. Here is the honest read, in three cases.
Your back office was chaos, and it is now clean. Keep it. That is exactly what it is for, and you are getting the value. Stop haggling over the monthly fee and put that energy into how fast you answer new inquiries, because that is where the money is.
You bought it hoping it would bring in more patients. That is the wrong tool for that job. Before you pay for another marketing tier, figure out what is actually creating new demand and what a booked consult costs you. The software is not the problem. The missing acquisition machine is.
You are a one-room clinic paying for a platform built for a chain. Do the math honestly on cost per booked consult against what the all-in-one costs you. A system built for large groups is often more than a small clinic needs, and a simpler front desk plus a real acquisition system can cost less and book more.
30-Second Audit
Three honest questions before your next renewal. Answer yes or no.
- Can you say, without opening a report, what a booked consult costs you this month?
- If you cancelled tomorrow, would you keep your patient list, your photos, and your ad attribution?
- Do you know which of your spend organizes the clinic and which actually brings in new patients?
If any answer was no, that is not a software problem, it is a measurement problem, and it is faster to fix than you think. Book a free audit and we will pull your real cost per booked consult, even if you decide to keep everything exactly as it is.
Great software runs the clinic you have. It was never going to fill it.
